What was my focus on?
As discussed in log 1. I struggled in few interviews related to concurrency, system design and DSA. My focus was on same.
But, only for some time.
Unexpected turn of events
During the month of May, I interviewed at 4 different companies. I fortunately got offer from 3. One of the offers was too good to ignore. It was for Staff engineer role at Disney. This role was focussed on frontend and aligned well with multiple parameter:
- At a company with great culture
- Role focussed on frontend; something I want to specialize on
- Senior role; title gives lot of influence
A part of my heart wanted to be on career break a little longer. But this was a great opportunity and opportunities does not knock twice. So, I have decided to accept the offer
Reflecting on my journey
Theoretically, I was unemployed for almost 2 months. But in reality, I never felt unemployed, even for a single day. If anything, I was busier during career break than I was with my job
The entire duration I had a “focus” problem. In the first half of May, I went on a trip to Munnar with my friends. The second half went in interviews. And just like that one month was over, all I did was study for interview and attend interviews.
June flew by in similar fashion. First half of June was negotiating for right compensation. In second half, I visited my hometown, to spend some time with my parents. Next thing I know, my joining day of Disney is here.
My plan was to focus on upskilling, and only spend little time in interviews. In reality, I only spent time in interviews. Jumping from one burning priority to another, never gave me the breathing space to follow my plan.
I am half-happy and half-sad. Happy for landing a job, sad for not utilizing my time well.
What about project zero?
Project Zero is a long-term goal. I plan to continue working on it. My responsibilities at work will always take higher priority than personal goals. After all, they help me pay my bills
One advantage of my current role is its focus on frontend. I was anyways planning to specialize in frontend. This is the perfect opportunity. The way I see - my current job is only helping me achieve my goals faster, rather than being an inconvenience
Onwards and Upwards!
